My Goals for 2011
Early in January I made a series of Twitter posts outlining my 2011 goals. All the experts say if you make your goals known, you are more likely to make them happen. Here they all are again:
- Be a better father and husband than the day before.
Some days are better than others, but I’m always trying.
- Read 3 books a month.
I’ve already read two (Unbroken and The Myth of Multitasking
) and I’m almost done with UnMarketing
and The Referral Engine
.
- Become an expert using Expression Engine and CodeIgniter.
On my way. I have EE and CodeIgniter installed and working through a book and series of screencasts. The first order of business will be the conversion of my site.
- Loose 20lbs of fat and gain 10lbs of muscle.
In that last 3 weeks, I’ve been to the gym ~8 times. My starting weight was 210lbs. I currently weigh 205.5lbs. It isn’t Biggest Loser numbers but I must admit, I haven’t been entirely careful with my diet either. One step (the gym) at a time.
- Convince the wife (and myself) that I need a new laptop – a 15in MBP.
My wife said 2 words…Good Luck.
There they are. Some are on-going and others should be accomplished long before the end of 2011…

Is it Business or is it Personal
About a month ago, someone mentioned Posterous to me and I took a look. I really liked the simplicity of it all and here it is.
I’ve struggled for the longest time about what to post where on the various social networks / blogs I have. I have a Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn account. I also have 2 blogs, one on WordPress (which I need to import into Posterous) and this one.
What do I post where? I used to spend so much time debating that I never posted much of anything!
I finally made a decision. I’m not going to worry about it.
Whether it is project news or pictures of my son, it is who I am. If you think I’m crossing the line one way or the other, too bad. If I loose a friend/follower/subscriber/customer because of this, oh well.
We’re all human, we have feelings, and we have a life. Everything we do and think makes us who we are. If I loose a project because a potential client thinks I shouldn’t talk about motorcycles, some current event or my family, then they probably aren’t the type of client I want anyway.
My best friends care about both my personal and professional life. My best clients care about the same thing as well

Project News – America China Society of Indiana
Last week, the American China Society of Indiana site went live. I wish I could take all the credit, but that really goes to Dennis Good of D.Good Design Co. I helped with a custom CMS back-end and Dennis did everything else. Let us know what you think.
